New direct import
We are very pleased to offer you an extremely limited allocation of Aymé Vadim, one of the most exciting and sought-after micro-producers in Burgundy today, and now part of our highly restricted direct import portfolio.
After several years of closely following Aymé Vadim’s work, we have now secured a very small allocation. He is a producer from the Côte de Nuits who, in recent years, has operated almost “under the surface” among connoisseurs and collectors, while quietly attaining an almost mythical status, simply because his wines are virtually impossible to find on the market. The total production is extremely limited: around 2,500 bottles per year, spread across 8–9 wines, meaning roughly 300 bottles per cuvée.
His background is anything but conventional: a PhD in molecular biology, over twenty years of work at institutions such as Harvard, the Max Planck Institute, and even the Pentagon, before moving to Beaune and starting from scratch in viticulture. His approach is radically purist: exclusively Premier and Grand Cru vineyards, spontaneous fermentation, no fining, no filtration, and minimal sulfur use. The wines are precise, unadorned, and remarkably pure.
What truly sets his work apart is an almost obsessive level of craftsmanship: each wine comes from a single barrel and is entirely bottled by hand, directly from barrel to bottle, one by one. Each cuvée is therefore a unique, non-reproducible snapshot in time. This is precisely one of the reasons why the name Vadim has developed an almost legendary reputation, combined with extremely limited availability and, in some cases, highly speculative pricing. Another key element is his release philosophy.
The currently available vintage is 2017, which was only bottled in 2024 after around seven years of aging on the lees in barrel, an approach that is virtually unheard of in Burgundy. Even the most renowned names (from DRC to Roumier) typically release their wines after 18–24 months. In addition, we have access to a very small quantity of the 2016 vintage, sourced directly from Vadim’s private library. A great vintage, more structured and less immediately approachable than 2017, but with outstanding aging potential. Vadim’s philosophy is clear: to release wines only when they are already harmonious and expressive, taking full responsibility for the extended maturation.
The focus is exclusively on Pinot Noir, with particular emphasis on Gevrey-Chambertin and the surrounding Premier and Grand Crus. The available quantities are extremely limited, and frankly, these wines do not need to be “sold.” We are sharing this allocation deliberately because it represents a truly rare opportunity.
