We are delighted to introduce our newest direct import from Le Marche: a tiny estate producing only about 7,000 bottles per year, closely tied to the renowned Cupano winery of Montalcino. These are, without doubt, some of the finest white wines we’ve tasted in recent years and, in true Chronos Wine Cellar style, we’ve prepared an exclusive Discovery Box just for you.

With its first vintage in 2020, Contrada Contro marks Andrea’s return to his grandparents’ land in Le Marche, at the foot of the Monti Sibillini, reviving the ancient tradition of ungrafted vines trained to field maples, known as viti maritate.
This project is deeply connected to the revival of viticulture and the strengthening of the agricultural community in the Monti Sibillini. Its focus is on recovering old vineyards and on winemaking techniques that showcase the pure mountain terroir.

Case Sparse 2023
2 x 75cl – CHF 22.00*
A blend of local Marche grapes: Trebbiano, Malvasia, Maceratino, Pecorino, Verdicchio, and Santa Maria. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel; 70% of the must comes from direct pressing, while 30% undergoes 12–18 hours of skin contact. Aged 8 months in Clayver ceramic vessels and 500L tonneaux.
Contrada Biordi 2022
1 x 75cl – CHF 45.00*
From an old co-planted vineyard of Montepulciano and Sangiovese (planted 1964) on sandy, sandstone soils. Harvested on September 15. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, 15 days on skins, followed by aging in third-use tonneaux. Bottled at the end of November. Floral and spicy, with deep Montepulciano tannins.
Contrada Contro 2022

From a 1976 vineyard at 530m altitude on sandy, silty, clay-rich soils near the sea. Mainly Trebbiano with Malvasia, Santa Maria, and Verdicchio. Grapes pressed immediately; must settled overnight in steel, then fermented in 500L tonneaux with indigenous yeasts. Aged 15 months on fine lees. Bottled unfiltered and unfined in late November. Structured, pure, and elegant.
Contrada Tommasucci 2022

From a co-planted 1972 vineyard at 620m, mainly Trebbiano and Malvasia with 10% Maceratino and Verdicchio, on sandy, silty, highly calcareous soils. Grapes pressed immediately; must settled overnight in steel, then fermented in a mix of 500L, 400L, and 228L barrels. Aged 15 months on fine lees. Bottled unfiltered and unfined. Distinctively saline and herbal.
Vino di Sante 2022

From ungrafted, century-old viti maritate (field-maple-trained vines) of Malvasia Bianca di Candia and Malvasia di Sarnano. Vertical in profile, reflecting the traditional training system, with a spicy, saline character. Harvested September 30, fermented and aged in Clayver ceramic vessels and demijohns for 14 months. Lees stirred every three days only during spontaneous alcoholic fermentation. Profoundly rare and expressive.
