THE MAFFREI BROTHERS

Maffrei was born from a shared passion between brothers Andrea and Stefano Mascarello, and its name reflects that bond: “Ma” from Mascarello and “Frei”, the Piedmontese word for “brothers”.

This project, launched in 2021 in La Morra, is fresh and ambitious, yet deeply rooted in the region’s historic vineyards, such as the Annunziata in La Morra. After growing up in the family’s historic winery, the two brothers set out on a new winemaking adventure of their own.

Their wines

With 3.6 hectares of vineyards and a small-scale production of about 11,000 bottles per year, Maffrei is focused on artisanal quality. Nebbiolo is at the heart of their work, but Dolcetto also features prominently, in homage to tradition. In 2024, they added a white wine that’s already making waves. But the real treasure, the Barolo Torriglione, will be released only in 2026, and is already being talked about as one of the region’s most exciting new prospects.

These Nebbiolo already speak the language of La Morra, and soon, La Morra will be speaking of the Nebbiolo of Maffrei.
