Continuum Collection 2020

One Chronos project. Ten cases. Vignarionda.

Some projects are born from a product.
Others, more rarely, are born from an idea.

Continuum Collection 2020 belongs to this second category.

It does not begin as a simple wooden case of wine. It does not begin as a special edition conceived afterwards. It is born from a precise vision of Chronos Wine Cellar: to tell the story of time through a wine, an origin, and four different formats.

A project designed to create a direct, tangible and authentic connection between vineyard, producer and wine lover. A way to give shape to what Chronos aims to be: not just an interpreter of the market, but a bridge between those who produce wine and those who experience it, preserve it, and understand it.

Continuum Collection 2020 is one of the most bespoke and identity-driven initiatives of Chronos Wine Cellar. It was imagined, designed and overseen in every detail by Chronos, with the fundamental support of Giovanni Rosso, who made the rarest heart of the project possible: the exclusive bottling of the 5-litre format of Langhe Nebbiolo Ester Canale 2020.

A format never produced before for this wine.
Ten bottles in total.

A Chronos Wine Cellar world exclusive.

This is where it all began.

The origin: Vignarionda

At the heart of Continuum Collection lies Langhe Nebbiolo Ester Canale 2020, produced by Giovanni Rosso from grapes grown in Vignarionda, one of the most important and sought-after crus in Serralunga d’Alba.

Vignarionda is one of those names that, in the world of Nebbiolo, carries a deep meaning. It does not simply indicate a place. It represents a history, a reputation, a precise idea of structure, depth and longevity.

Wines from this cru often show a vertical, austere dimension, capable of evolving over time with remarkable complexity. It is an origin that does not rely solely on power, but combines character, elegance and the ability to age gracefully.

Langhe Nebbiolo Ester Canale is born in this context. And this is precisely what makes it different from many other Langhe Nebbiolo wines.

It is not a simple, immediate wine meant only for youthful, easy drinking. It is a Nebbiolo with structure, depth and aging potential, suspended between the purity of Langhe Nebbiolo and the territorial seriousness of Barolo, capable of drawing the best from both expressions.

It carries the freshness and energy of Nebbiolo, but also a density and perspective that place it in a very specific category. A wine that speaks of Vignarionda with a different voice, perhaps less solemn than Barolo, but no less authentic.

The format that did not exist

Every project has a starting point.

For Continuum Collection, that point was the 5-litre format.

For the 2020 vintage, Giovanni Rosso bottled for Chronos Wine Cellar a format never before produced for Langhe Nebbiolo Ester Canale: ten 5-litre bottles created exclusively for Chronos.

The 5-litre Langhe Nebbiolo Ester Canale 2020 exists only within Continuum Collection.

This detail is not secondary. It is the very heart of the project.

Having the trust of a producer like Giovanni Rosso to create an exclusive format of this kind means a great deal to Chronos. It means the relationship between producer and distributor can go beyond commerce. It becomes design. It becomes shared vision. It becomes something that did not exist before.

Giovanni Rosso supported the project by allowing Chronos to work on a unique content, never available in this form before. Chronos then built around this rarity a complete, coherent and deeply considered collection.

It was not just about having ten special bottles.

It was about giving them a form, a home, a narrative.

A horizontal collection of formats

Continuum Collection 2020 brings together the same vintage, the same wine and the same origin in four different formats:

75cl
150cl
300cl
500cl

The idea is simple, yet powerful: to observe how time acts differently on the same wine depending on the volume of the bottle.

The 75cl format is the classic measure, the most familiar reference point for understanding wine in its most immediate expression.

The magnum (150cl) already opens a different perspective: the wine evolves more slowly, gaining balance and complexity over time.

With 300cl, the rhythm shifts further. The ageing dynamic expands, and Nebbiolo develops greater depth, revealing nuances that emerge gradually with patience.

Finally, there is the 500cl, the format that gave birth to the entire project. A rare bottle, never previously produced for this wine, around which the entire Continuum Collection was built.

Four formats not to multiply the wine, but to multiply perspectives on time.

The same vintage can thus be read in different ways. The same Nebbiolo can mature at different speeds. The same origin can gradually reveal itself through different intensities and rhythms.

In this sense, Continuum Collection is not just a set of bottles. It is a small laboratory of time.

The Chronos idea

The name Chronos already carries a reference to time. But in this project, time is not merely a conceptual idea. It is the very substance of the collection.

The time of the vineyard.
The time of the wine.
The time of ageing.
The time of craftsmanship.

The time required to imagine something that makes sense today, yet is designed to last.

Continuum Collection was born from Chronos Wine Cellar’s desire to distinguish itself through projects built with care, structure and identity. Not simply selecting wines, but creating deeper connections between origin, producer and wine lover.

In a market that is often fast, noisy and driven by immediate availability, this project moves in the opposite direction. It demands attention. It demands time. It invites us to see wine not only as consumption, but as a cultural, agricultural, artisanal and emotional object.

The case: oak, hands, precision

Once the 5-litre format was defined, the question became inevitable: how do you preserve something so rare?

The answer could not be standard packaging.

The case had to be an integral part of the project. It had to have weight, presence, identity. It had to be solid, elegant, precise. It had to do justice to the wine without overpowering it. It had to protect, narrate and accompany.

For this reason, Chronos worked with Tuscan wood artisans to create a handcrafted oak case designed specifically to hold the four formats of the collection.

Oak was not chosen only for its beauty. It is a living, resilient and noble material, naturally linked to the idea of endurance. Over time it evolves, settles, and gains character, just like the wine it holds.

Every element of the case was carefully considered: bottle placement, proportions, structural strength, opening mechanism, visual presence, and the relationship between material and content.

The goal was not to create a showpiece.

The goal was to create a right object.

A true piece of craftsmanship, born from long design work and skilled hands. A case designed to last, to be preserved, and to become part of the wine’s own history.

An artwork at the heart of the collection

Inside each Continuum Collection is also an original artwork created by Alex Massarotto, founder of Vin Affiché, specifically for this edition.

Its presence is not a decorative detail. It is a natural extension of the project.

If the wine tells the story of Vignarionda through taste, and the case through material, the artwork interprets it through artistic language.

It adds another layer of reading. A way to transform the collection into a meeting point between different languages: wine, wood, image and time.

Continuum Collection thus becomes a more complete object. Not only oenological, not only artisanal, not only visual. But a coherent set of elements in constant dialogue.

Each case therefore holds four formats of the same wine, and an artwork created exclusively for this first edition. A detail that reinforces the uniqueness of the project and expands its cultural dimension.

Ten numbered cases

Continuum Collection 2020 exists in only ten numbered pieces.

This rarity is not artificial. It stems from a simple fact: ten 5-litre bottles, exclusively bottled for Chronos Wine Cellar, around which ten cases were created.

The number is therefore part of the story. Not a device. Not a limitation designed to create desire. But the natural consequence of a project born from a rare and unrepeatable opportunity.

Each case is an individual piece.
Each case contains the same idea.
Each case tells the same origin.

And yet, as with every handcrafted object, no two are exactly alike. The wood, the grain, the artisanal gesture, the passage of time in the material, all make each piece slightly different, and therefore unique.

The first edition

The 2020 vintage represents the first edition of the Continuum Collection.

This is important, because the project is not intended as a one-off episode. It is a language Chronos intends to continue with future vintages.

Each new edition will follow the same core idea: a single vintage, one wine, multiple formats, a case built around time. A coherent series capable of telling, year after year, the evolution of Langhe Nebbiolo Ester Canale and the relationship between Chronos Wine Cellar and Giovanni Rosso.

2020 is therefore the first chapter.

And first chapters always carry something special. They contain the origin of the project, its initial intuition, the moment when an idea takes its first real form.

More than a case

Continuum Collection 2020 is difficult to define in simple terms.

It is a case, but it is not only a case.

It is a selection of formats, but not only a selection of formats.

It is an exclusive project, but its rarity alone is not what makes it meaningful.

It is the result of a series of coherent choices.

The choice to start from Vignarionda.

The choice to work with a wine deeply tied to the history of Giovanni Rosso.

The choice to request a format never bottled before.

The choice not to leave that rarity isolated, but to build a complete object around it.

The choice to collaborate with wood artisans.

The choice to integrate an original artwork.

The choice to create something that speaks for Chronos without needing too many words.

Because in the end, Continuum Collection expresses exactly this: the way Chronos Wine Cellar understands its work.

Not a cold distribution.

Not a simple intermediary role.

But a construction of value around wine.

A work built on relationships, care, vision and attention to detail. A way to bring the wine lover closer to the vineyard and the producer, through objects and stories that have substance.

Time, in ten pieces

Continuum Collection 2020 is a project about time.

The time it takes for a vineyard to become a recognised place.

The time it takes for a wine to evolve.

The time it takes to imagine, design and create a handcrafted object.

The time it takes to build trust with a producer.

The time it takes to turn a bottle into memory.

Ten cases. One vintage. Four formats. One origin: Vignarionda.

And a simple but profoundly Chronos idea: wine is not only something to drink. It is something to understand, to preserve, and to let evolve.
